I've got some incredible news.

Normally, I don't go right into our product line up, since this portion of our news letter is designated for industry tips and updates.

But the information I'm about to provide is incredibly exciting.

Maybe the title of this article is a bit of an exaggeration.

But who in the life insurance business hasn't been burned by a bad para-med exam?

I mean, the client looks great on paper. He goes for his regular visits. His blood pressure and cholesterol are in check. He only has one speeding ticket in the last five years.
 
So you write your standard "go to" Term Life product and schedule the para-med.
 
And that's where the trouble starts. He cancels the para-med twice, citing scheduling conflicts.
 
Two weeks go by.
 
Finally, the third time is a charm and after 2 weeks of waiting, the examiner comes out to draw blood, check his vitals and have your client urinate in a cup. If he's lucky, he avoided the EKG.
 
An after waiting a week for the results, bam!
 
He forgot to fast the morning of his exam and gets declined because his blood sugar read high. (Or any number of reasons that can cause unreasonable table ratings or declines.)
 
Do you think your client is happy after he thinks you wasted a month of his time to put a decline on his record? What are his chances of getting Life Insurance from another company now?
 
Admittedly, this is still the only way to do it for high face amounts, like $1,000,000.
 
But what if there were a better way to write small amounts for a minimal price difference?

The Truth About Leads Will Set You Free!
Many brokers and agents feel that if they can't close most every single lead they buy, they're wasting their time and money.  After all, leads can be very expensive and time consuming.
 
This couldn't be farther from the truth.
 
While leads do not necessarily translate immediately into more profit, they are one of the best business building tools available.
 
How is this possible?
 
The concept is simple.  Use the few leads you do close to build your business.  On average, every Lead you close will result in 2-4 referrals per year if you work them correctly.
 
Here are some ideas:
  • Ask for referrals from every lead you speak with.
  • Sell a package deal to improve credibility and retention.
  • Try offering service over price (don't be fooled.  If they've been online, they already know the price)
  • Create a professional email campaign, sending a minimum of 1 email per month to every single lead you purchase, whether or not they buy.
  • And of course, separate yourself from the crowd. The lead will probably be hearing from multiple agents.
One point to consider: There is rarely such thing as an exclusive lead.
 
How so?
 
Even if your lead source only sells their leads once (or says they do), I promise you the prospect has probably filled out their information with other sources.
 
Or potentially that "exclusive" lead service bought the lead from someplace else that already sold it elsewhere.
 
Also, not all leads are created equal.
 
Look for leads that came from people actually searching for your products and services! Leads produced through SPAM, surveys and flashy pop-ups promising a free trip to the Bahamas or an ipod cost less, but overall prove to have poor conversion rates and retention.
 
To conclude, leads are not for everyone.  Working with leads requires a vision for the future, an ability to work them quickly and well, and a certain level of patience that not everyone has.
